(五種通, 五种通)

Five kinds of supernatural power:

(1) [lang id =1028]道通 of bodhisattvas through their insight into truth;

(2) [lang id =1028]神通 of arhats through their mental concentration;

(3) [lang id =1028]依通 supernatural or magical powers dependent on drugs, charms, incantations, etc.;

(4) [lang id =1028]報通 or [lang id =1028]業通 reward or karma powers of transformation possessed by (sa) devas, (sa) nāgas, etc.;

(5) [lang id =1028]妖通 magical power of goblins, satyrs, etc.

﹝出宗鏡錄﹞ 〔一、 道通〕， 道即道理， 謂證中道之理， 而能起用， 無心應物， 緣化萬有， 猶如影像， 水月空華， 無有定體， 是名道通。 〔二、 神通〕， 神即心神， 謂靜心照物， 宿命記持， 種種分明， 皆隨定力， 無有障礙， 是名神通。 〔三、 依通〕， 依即依憑， 謂依憑術法， 任意無礙， 如乘符往來， 藥餌靈變之類， 是名依通。 （乘符往來， 藥餌靈變， 皆神仙之術也。 ） 〔四、 報通〕， 謂鬼神先知， 諸天變化， 中陰了生， 神龍隱變， 是名報通。 （中陰了生者， 謂人死之後， 未曾托生， 於中陰中， 即能了知托生之處也。 ） 〔五、 妖通〕， 謂狐狸老變， 木石精化， 附傍人神， 聰慧奇異， 是名妖通。
